How to check whether your cosmetic product has been recalled

A recall is a normal part of a responsible manufacturer's work: it saw a risk and took the batch off the shelves. The main thing is that the consumer finds out. Here is how to check your product in a few minutes.

Five steps

  1. Find the batch number. It is mandatory on the label — usually next to the expiry date, marked LOT or L.
  2. Check Safety Gate. This is the EU system for dangerous non-food products: on ec.europa.eu/safety-gate you can search by brand or product name and filter the “Cosmetics” category.
  3. Check the manufacturer's website. Large brands publish recall notices listing the batches.
  4. For products from the US — the FDA database. The Recalls, Market Withdrawals & Safety Alerts section on fda.gov.
  5. Is your batch on the list? Stop using the product, keep the packaging and the receipt, return the product to the shop or contact the manufacturer. If a skin reaction appears, see a doctor.

What has changed in Ukraine

From 3 August 2026 cosmetics in Ukraine undergo notification, and a responsible person registered in Ukraine is accountable for each product. Market surveillance is carried out by Derzhlikservice: it inspects products and can withdraw those that do not meet the requirements. More in the article on the technical regulation.

How Beautymarket works

For the brands in our portfolio we keep documents for each batch. If a manufacturer announces a recall, we notify our retail partners, take the problem goods off the shelves and organise a replacement or a refund.
